Oughterard is an angling village on the shores of Lough Corrib, with a longstanding worldwide reputation for the quality of the trout and fishing. It is also a wonderful centre from which to explore the spectacular Connemara region with its mountains, lakes and seascapes.

Oughterard has always been popular with people seeking holiday and retirement homes, but in recent times it has become very important as a dormitory town for Galway City, which is only twenty-minute drive. This pleasant town offers excellent amenities. Apart from the fishing in Lough Corrib, there is a first class 18-hole golf course and many other sports facilities. There are several good hotels and a selection of restaurants, lively pubs and a variety of shops. There are fine local primary and secondary schools. Oughterard is certainly one of the most sought after areas in the West of Ireland.
